Srila Prabhupada

THE AMBASSADOR FROM THE SPIRITUAL WORLD

Srila Prabhupada’s Quotes on Deity Worship Seva”a person who is engaged in the worship of the Deities can minimize his stock of sinful reactions coming from many, many previous births”

Necter Of Devotion

The worship of the Deity in the temple is essential to reduce one’s restlessness due to the contamination of conditioned life.

– Sri Caitanya-Caritamrta

“bhakti is also a cleansing method, vidhi-bhakti. But by engaging oneself in this Deity worship, he also becomes cleansed. Tat-paratve… Sarvopadhi… As he becomes enlightened or advanced in understanding that he is eternal servant of Krsna”.

– Srimad-Bhagavatam Lectures

“Especially for householder devotees who are opulent in material possessions, the path of Deity worship is strongly recommended”.

Srimad-Bhagavatam

The Deity is known as the arca-vigraha or arca-avatara, an incarnation of the Supreme Lord in the form of a material manifestation (brass, stone or wood).

Sri Caitanya-Caritamrta

In pure devotional service one comes to the realization that God is great and that the individual soul is subordinate to Him. His duty is to render service to the Lord – and if he does not, then he will render service to maya.

– Srimad Bhagavad Gita

Krishna also in Srimad Bhagvatam says to Uddhava that “One should worship Me in My Deity forms by offering the most excellent paraphernalia.”

 – Srimad-Bhagavatam 11.27.15

The more one surrenders in loving devotion to the Deity, the more one can understand the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Lord Krishna is a person, but He is the Supreme Person, possessing His own unique feelings. One can easily please the Lord by devotional service offered to His Deity form. By pleasing the Lord one can gradually progress in the mission of human life and eventually go back home, back to Godhead, where the Deity personally appears before the devotee and welcomes the devotee to His personal abode, known throughout the world as the kingdom of God.

– Srimad-Bhagavatam 11.27.14

Krishna Consciousness is called eternal service. That means that the service you perform for Krishna is everlasting and never dies. Srila Prabhupada called this the “spiritual bank account.” Whatever goes into that spiritual bank account is never lost, even at the time of death. In material life, whatever is gained will ultimately be taken away at death, and therefore the Bhavagatam calls this material work the “hard labor for nothing” life.

We all are spirit but cannot see it. God is the Supreme spirit, therefore, to show kindness toward us, He appears out of His unbounded mercy in the form of a wooden or stone Deity so that we can see him.

So remember that every little service performed for Krishna and the preaching movement never goes in vain. It is eternal, everlasting, and all-auspicious. This is eternal loving service to God and it never perishes. So please let us all take advantage of the human form of life and offer seva and make our daily life sublime.

Serving the deities directly brings the devotees in the Lord’s closest proximity. How wonderful can it be to touch the Lord’s feet every day and to see His ethereal beauty. And how kind Krsna is that He bestows His mercy on those also who commit themselves in Deity seva of any form- serving Him directly or through donation which includes deity dresses, flowers and bhog services etc.
